Getting event logs from Video Publisher

In the event you need to troubleshoot your Video Publisher installation, it's handy to provide the helpdesk team with software logs. Video Publisher keeps detailed logs to assist in tracking down problems, and there are a number of ways of accessing them.

Video Publisher v3.1 and earlier

  1. Start Video Publisher.
  2. Click the down arrow next to the Setup button on the toolbar and choose Program options from the pop-up menu:

  3. Select the Event Log tab.

Video Publisher v3.2 and later

  1. Start Video Publisher.
  2. Click the down arrow next to the Setup button on the toolbar and choose Event Log from the pop-up menu:

You can now do one of the following:

  • Click the Open button to display the log for the currently active session in Notepad.
  • Click the Explore button to open the folder where each session log is stored.

In Video Publisher v3.4 and later, you are able to click the Email This Log button at the bottom of the Event Log screen to generate an email message containing the currently active session and address it to the Encoded Media support desk automatically. You can also click Copy This Log to copy the contents of the session to your Windows clipboard.

For your reference, Video Publisher application log files are named using the following convention:

EMAPS2_<em>YYYY-MM-DD_HH.MM.SS</em>.log

Where YYYY is a four digit year, MM the month, DD the day, and HH.MM.SS the timestamp in hours, minutes and seconds respectively.
