SAP Announcements

Encoded Media hardware encoder appliances automatically broadcast the availability of multicast channels via the means of SAP announcements.

To allow SAP announcements

The Encoded Media appliance in question must be configured with at least one multicast channel
Your firewall must allow SAP announcements to pass on port 9875

To test for SAP announcements

Announcements are broadcast on multicast group 239.255.255.255 port 9875. Testing for these packets is a simple, two step process using McTest.

Download and run Encoded Media's free McTest tool from the downloads page.
Paste the SAP group 239.255.255.255:9875 into the IP address field at the top and tap Start.
